ok finally i got to post, after trying for two weeks.

looks like internet addresses are no longer allowed in posts at iCE. that seems a bit subjective, jacked up and tyranical.

so... iCE has been down about 4 years. if you still really want to make tiles and quilts, visit the site, create an account and get busy. the site was set up by a coder who knows all the latest coding languages, he\'s current on the latest php, and he\'s always happy to help. in the past, many non members at iCE asked for a place to display their art. that\'s already built in. and he\'s willing to make additional changes to the look and user interface if we want something added or changed.

we are set up to run 10 quilts at once. come over while we wait for iCE and finish whats there or request new themes. this site was set up for the users here who still wanted a place to play. show up and make it your own.

ok. maybe this needs to be said finally as im sure some of the iCE artists as well as the visitors have wondered what happened, where the iCE Packs and Quilts disappeared to.

so here goes, and this is just my opinion NOT the official position on the subject:


...the site was written before php, a modern computer language, existed. the server that runs the code stays as current as possible. as it should. so a rewrite of the entire site is required to match the site code to the modern server code capabilities.

a rewrite was begun, then hiccuped, then attempted again at least twice that i know of before 2005. there were waaaay too many cooks. and as happens in these situations, opinions on how to do it far out numbered any real attempts to complete a rewrite. there is still another rewrite in progress i believe but with a smaller group taking the reins this time.

iCE staff are all volunteers with real lives and real demands on their time. what the site needs to get on its feet again is staff with free time, desire, and know how. all three of those qualities are necessary, and maybe we have them still. if so iCE will be back eventually.

again this is all just my opinion. and im not busting any chops. myself for example; im retired so i have free time, but no idea how to begin to rewrite the site code. those with the know how have full time jobs and lives. making free time much harder to come by.

My personal theory is that we all got raped by World of Warcraft.
