blend may be off a bit, but...
I still like what you did with your borders and I'm excited to see what happens to your streams of fire. I did the second tile below you and I think that I got a continuation of one of the streams in my border. It'll be interesting to see how it works out.

I think you did a great job with what you got.
If there's anything to comment on it would be the direction of you shadows. It seems that most people draw tiles with highlights and shadows placed as if the light comes from the upper left corner of the tile. In your case you could have assumed that light from the lava would be enough to cause shadows.
All in all a good tile and I'd like to apologize again for that unintentionally difficult border from my tile above.

Now I see it in place it doesn't look nearly as bad as I thought it would :)
I think you're right about the light/shadows, I was trying to keep in pretty general and diffused, but using the river as the main lightsource could have been a much better idea, I'll bear it in mind for my next tile...
I'm also interested to know what happens to the edges, hopefully I provided enough interesting colour on the edges for people to have fun with.

Disoriented Shadows
I got the tile to the left of yours, and my shadows go down and to the left also. I'm fairly happy with how it turned out, though. I have two "Coming Soon" tiles, with the 1 missing tile keeping me from happiness :P. Anyway, I'm glad to see that it did turn out to be desert and lava as I expected. Nice Tile :)
