i meant the white to be sky, like the forest is ending in the background.. but that was at the end, so i didnt do a very good job :P

Yes, I can see what you had in mind - it requires a shift of perspective, I saw the chap as INSIDE the forest, but if you look at him as ON TOP, then the whole sky thing becomes clear. Maybe if you put some clearer treetops on the horizon it would've been more obvious. Why's he so happy? 'Cause he made it to the top?
