Always am I a work in progress. And I need to remember that.
I don't make art for money. In fact I have been hard pressed to sell my works because of it. While I understand when someone buys a piece that it is their way of showing appreciation, I often wonder. So much is wrapped around dollar signs anymore. What happened to a thing's existance being appreciated for its existance and craftsmanship? Not merely for how much it is worth monetarily. We have lost something great and don't realize it.

ARTIST'S STATEMENT
_______________________________________________________________________________
I am an artist because it is all I really know. Art and family. Family is something you are raised with or not. And art? Well, I have tried to be many things as an artist. So many I think that I have begun to worry about what I am instead of just having fun. THIS is the first road to artist block folks. I had to be an "Artist".
So what am I? This is what an Artist's Statement is right. So, basically, I draw.
Nothing else to say . I LOVE drawing. I love to paint too, but I am better at drawing. I have come to realize, though, that even though I use pencil as my medium, the technique which I use and the motions I make technically makes me a painter anyway. In other words; I paint with pencils and call it drawing. And in the center of all that is pencilwork. Black and white and all the shades of grey.
"Drawing" is all I really know. 20+ years of my life has went into either developing it externally or internally. Why? Because in all my life there is nothing that strikes my core like pencil work. Black and white and all the shades of grey. Well, ok, not white. I have heard Thomas Kincade discribed as "the painter of light". As a pencil artist, I cannot control the light. Pencils are shades. All I can control is where to put the shadow. Now, the funny thing is, by time I draw that all the shadows ... I step back and there's the light.
