I guess I kinda expected this to be Bob. Especially with the available tile thumbs I've been seeing :)
Unfortunately, fitting as this might be to the quilt, I don't think it makes a good starter, since none of the edges seem to offer anything particularly interesting.
On the other hand, I guess if it wasn't a first tile, five people would have drawn Bob later on, each thinking his tile to be unique, so I guess it's just as well.

Pretty cool
Re: Pretty cool
http://www.bobross.com/hendricks-tn.gif was the inspiration I think. Trust me, the blending is great and all the neighbors look very cool. Every tile that is done so far is a 5!

Hey! I kind of agree with you on this. Root88 suggested to me that I do a portrait as the starter, and I was game. I guess I hoped people could do mountains off the shoulders and go with the sky, and turn his fro into a shrub or something. We'll see how things work out! (As for a million Bob Ross's, gosh I hope not.) :)

if you think that's funny, wait till you see the tile above this one. I have no idea how the artists pulled it off. I think it was a lucky guess that just happened to work out perfectly.
actually
I think it's a great starter tile, and I can see plenty of ways the quilt could evolve from it. I can't wait.
